Congratulations to all of our massage therapists. The Back In Action Massage Therapy team has been voted "Best In Richmond" every year since 2012! Each therapist is highly skilled and uses a variety of therapeutic techniques. All Back In Action therapists work closely with the doctors.
MEET OUR THERAPISTS
Renee graduated from the massage certification program at American Spirit Institute, Williamsburg, in 1996. She received her BS from UNC-Greensboro in 1985. Before moving to Richmond in 2008, she taught massage and ethics at the Institute of Health and Healing in Newport News. She enjoys running and yoga and spending time with her two children and wonderful friends! Renee has been doing massage for over 16 years. She is skilled, experienced and in demand. You can find her at BIA in between her primary job as a school teacher (and mother). Renee has been with Back In Action for over 6 years.
Sara Jane Marunde
Sara Jane has been with Back In Action for a number of years. She has worked on hundreds of clients since graduating from the American Institute of Massage in 2009. She is a highly talented deep tissue massage therapist who has had extensive clinical experience, both in working with doctors and in managing her own massage clinic. Sara Jane is also certified in Reiki therapy and will integrate energy work into her massage, when requested. Her massages generally combine a subtle energy work with very deep massage.
Catherine is a certified medical massage therapist. She has over 6 years experience having worked in both clinical environments and spa- oriented settings. She has significant experience in working with doctors in treating sports and personal injuries. She has a confident, deep touch with an intuitive element that well balances her skill. Catherine's massage specialties are in swedish, deep tissue, sports and myofascial release. She typically uses a combination of techniques in her therapy.
Jenn has worked in clinical setting and in private practice for the past 6 years, since graduating from the Richmond Academy of Massage in 2008. She holds multiple certifications in massage techniques such as myofascial release, medical massage and pregnancy massage. She is also a nationally certified personal trainer. Jenn served in the United States Marine Corps from 1980-1993 and later served as a police officer in Ashland, VA. She enjoys spending time with her dogs and volunteering at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Battlefield Post.
Portia Is a nationally and Virginia state Certified Massage Therapist and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA.) She received her BA degree from University of Richmond in 1992, then her AAS degree in Occupational Therapy from J Sergeant Reynolds Community College in 1998. She then went in to complete her training in massage therapy, receiving her certificate from American Institute of Massage in 2002.
Portia's first therapy jobs were in long term care rehab centers & adult day care centers for seniors with varying physical and cognitive disabilities. She enjoyed the older population but as her interest in wellness and natural health grew, she felt she could better serve patients by teaching and practicing holistic, preventative approaches to health, which included massage therapy.
Portia's preferred treatment modalities include neuromuscular therapy, deep tissue massage, myofascial release and diaphragmatic breathing training/retraining. She currently lives and works in Richmond, Virginia, sharing a life of holistic and natural health with her husband, 2 children and 2 cats. She would love to help you learn more about living a pain-free, balanced, productive life!
In addition to his Rolfing Certification, Stephen is a Certified Massage Therapist (CMT), licensed by the Board of Nursing. He received his massage certification from the Virginia School of Massage in Charlottesville, VA in 2008. He has practiced massage therapy both in Charlottesville, and Richmond, VA. His personal interests include Rolfing, Ving Tsun Kung Fu, Yoga, Qigong, nature, hiking, climbing, traveling, and most anything that involves physical movement, study/research/experiencing more teaching, but most of all, spending time with his wonderful wife, while loving and raising their beautiful daughter.
